NETWORK 1212 FAQs

What are the social networking programs offered through Network 1212?
Some of our regular events include:
-
Monthly Meet-Ups at Pompei Restaurant on Taylor Street occur on the second Sunday of the month from 12 noon to 1:30 pm (except in October and June). Young adults with autism and related challenges ages 16 to 35 who can attend without support are invited. Your $10 payment helps cover the cost of pizza, soft drinks, dessert and salad. We supply the board games.
-
Urban Hike With Mike occurs on Wednesday evenings and brings young adults with autism and related challenges to different Chicago neighborhoods for dinner via public transportation. Hike participants must first attend one of our Monthly Meetups. Email info@urbanautismsolutions.com for more information.
-
Movie Nights, and other events.

The goal of Network 1212 is to eliminate social isolation and to build and maintain new friendships with peers that have similar challenges and interests while networking with other community members on the near west side.

How can my son/daughter participate in the social activities you offer?

Please take a look at our Events page and email us at info@urbanautismsolutions.com to let us know which event you are interested in attending. Some events require advanced registration or payment.

What are the age requirements to join?
Network 1212 is open to young adults, age 16 to 35 with autism or social and communication challenges. Young adults must be able to attend without the support of parents, but if you feel more comfortable you are welcome to have a support person with you.

Where can I find a list of upcoming events?

Please visit our Events page or follow us on social media by clicking the social media icons on the right side of this page.

How much does it cost to participate in each event?

Realizing that budgets are limited for many young adults with autism, we charge participants a minimal fee to help cover the cost of the activity. Our Monthly Meet-Ups at Pompei cost $10 (this covers salad, pizza, dessert and soft drinks). Other fees will vary based on activity and location. Attendees should bring money for dinner if they go on one of the Urban Hike With Mike outings. We usually go to inexpensive restaurants where dinner is less than $20.

Do I have to attend all of the events?

You can choose to participate on an occasional basis. However, we witness deepening friendships and positive social anticipation with consistent participation.

Is there supervision at the events?
All events will have a representative from Urban Autism Solutions to coordinate participants and assist in an emergency.
If you feel that you need additional supervision or assistance, please contact us ahead of time so that we can help you determine the best way for you to join us. Participants that endanger or challenge the safety will be asked to leave immediately.

I would like to volunteer at an event and host or co-host an event. Is this possible and who do I contact to discuss this opportunity?

We welcome and appreciate volunteers and help with hosting events and outings. Based on the activity and location, we may need one or several volunteers. If you have an idea for an event that you would like to sponsor or would like to help at a Network 1212 event, please contact us at info@urbanautismsolutions.com
